What Is Accounts Receivable Aging?
Accounts receivable aging (AR aging) sorts your unpaid invoices by how long they have been overdue. An aging report shows the result in buckets, usually current (not yet due), 1 to 30 days, 31 to 60 days, 61 to 90 days and over 90 days. Each row is a client, each column a bucket, and the totals show where your money is stuck.
The report answers two questions: who should I chase this week, and how much of what I am owed may never arrive? The older an invoice gets, the less likely it is to be paid, so the 61 to 90 and 90+ columns deserve a phone call rather than another email. A client who keeps showing up in the older buckets may need shorter terms or a deposit on the next job.
Aging builds on accounts receivable, the total you are owed. Days sales outstanding (DSO) turns the same data into one number: the average days it takes to get paid. A statement of account often includes a small aging summary for one client.
SolidInvoice tracks the status and due date of every invoice, and you can export them to CSV to build an aging report in a spreadsheet.
